Art Project " Lal'ka Motanka "

What do you know about Ukraine? The main theme of this art project it is get people closer to Ukrainian culture .
The project includes two parts:
Part 1
Motanka doll
According to the most recent historical researches, Motanka dolls were present in Ukraine more than seven thousand years ago. Ancient Ukrainians believed that such amulets can protect an owner and give him what he dreams of. But it was not just an amulet in everyday life it was also a toy for children.
A doll Motanka got its name from the Ukrainian word ‘motaty’ that means ' to reel '. That is why needles are not generally used. What we need is only our hands and various pieces of textiles. So we are going to reel our 1,5 meter doll altogether! We will reel and play with the Ukrainian traditions because it is much more interesting to learn something when you play!

Part 2
Collage
Collage is a technique of an art production, primarily used in the visual arts, where the artwork is made from an assemblage of different forms, thus creating a new whole. In our Collage we will use photos and drawings of Ukraine : nature, architecture, people in traditional clothes, holidays, food, Ukrainian symbols, traditional art and many many other patterns of the Ukrainian culture. You can put this patterns togeter and create your own Ukraine! We plan to make one large collage together or you can also collage your own postcards which then will be sent to children living in orphanages in Ukraine and Japan.
